CARNES, ALFRED J. Of Norwood passed away on Nov. 1, 2018 at the age of 96. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Pace) Carnes. Son of the late Henry and Ellen (Minihane) Carnes. Loving father of Patricia Burke and her husband Michael of Natick, Carol Thormahlen and her late husband Henry of Lakeland, FL and the Late Robert Carnes and his wife Maryann of Pittsfield. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Alfred was born Sept. 20, 1922 in Hyde Park, MA. He was one of five children. Brother of the late Henry Carnes Jr., Eileen Carnes, Kathleen Scanlan and Mary Diehl. Alfred and his wife Dorothy married on April 8, 1944 and were married for 62 years. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. He was a US Army S/SGT during WWII and a long time Norwood resident. Alfred was the manager of the Norwood Continentals, A drum and bugle corp in the 1960's and was a carpenter by trade for over 50 years. He enjoyed Notre Dame football and music, particularly big band and jazz music. Alfred enjoyed playing bingo at the KofC in Norwood and playing the Lottery. He had a generous spirit and always wanted to help those in need. He had a great sense of humor and was fiercely independent and his family and friends were of the upmost importance to him. Funeral from the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood Thursday, Nov. 8, 2018 at 10am followed by a funeral mass at 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Church Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2018 from 4-8pm. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery W. Roxbury, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society 125 S. Huntington Ave. Boston, MA 02130 or to the Home For Little Wanderers, 10 Guest St. Boston, MA 02135.
