Barbara Bernasconi, age 89, passed away in the early evening of Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Lydia Taft House in Uxbridge. She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Guido Bernasconi.
Born and raised in Norwood, Barbara was one of three children born to the late Harold and Mary (O’Donnell) Smith. She grew up in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1954.
For much of her life, Barbara embraced the important role of homemaker, taking great pride in creating a safe, warm, and welcoming home for her family and all who entered. In addition to her dedication at home, she worked part-time at Raytheon, in the cafeteria, and in the domestic department at Bradlees.
Outside of work, Barbara enjoyed bowling and was an avid participant, often going as frequently as twice a week. Despite never having a driver’s license, she found adventure in riding snowmobiles throughout Northern New England. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting destinations such as Canada, Florida, and Las Vegas. Above all else, family was the center of Barbara’s life. She cherished every moment spent creating lasting memories with those she loved.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughters, Donna Nolan of Milford and Patricia Dooley and her husband, David, of Douglas. She was the cherished grandmother of James Nolan and his wife Louise of Boston, Joseph Nolan and his wife Denise of Medway, Heather Taft and her husband Jeremy of Douglas, and Jennifer Gasco and her husband Tyler of Grafton. She will be fondly remembered by her great-grandchildren, Brianna, Brayden, Jackson, Lyla, Madelynn, Logan, and Lacey, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara was predeceased by her siblings, Harold Smith, Jr. and Rosaleen Martin.
Barbara’s family extends their deep gratitude to the staff of the Lydia Taft House for the exceptional care and compassion shown to her in her final days.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 9:00–10:00 a.m. at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood, MA.
Her Funeral Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole, MA.
Barbara will be laid to rest with her late husband at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.
At the request of the family, flowers are kindly omitted.
