Barbara (McDonagh) Farnsworth

Barbara Farnsworth, age 85, a longtime resident of Norwood, passed away at her home on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. She was the devoted and loving wife to the late Richard R. Farnsworth, Sr., who passed away December 9, 2022.

Born into a family of 11 children in Cnoc Lettermullen, County Galway, Ireland, Barbara was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary (Folan) McDonagh. She immigrated to the United States of America in the early 1960’s.

Initially settling in the Newton area, Barbara spent several years in Brookline starting her family, before ultimately settling in Norwood with her husband and children.

Barbara was independently employed and her jobs included taking care of children, homes, and the elderly. She enjoyed taking care of people and was always offering help. If you did her one favor, she needed to do three for you. After you gave her any kind of help, you could expect a gift card, and bottle of something special.

Barbara was an animal lover and considered her pets a part of the family. She loved her dogs that through the years included Chester, Truman, Wilson, Ellie, and Bennie. She enjoyed her wine and watching her favorite TV programs, including Seinfeld and Judge Judy. Barbara loved to travel and enjoyed time in Nantucket, Vermont, Cape Cod, and Nantasket Beach. She frequently recalled her trips to Ireland, especially the epic family trip there in 2016, when her husband saw Ireland for the first time. She relished the time spent and memories made with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Barbara is survived by her proud and cherished children: Ann E. Richards-Farnsworth and her wife Laurie of Norfolk and Richard R. Farnsworth, Jr., of Woonsocket, RI; her grandchildren: Chloe, Jakob, and Joshua; her brother: Seamus McDonagh; her siblings: Bridie Faherty, Nora Flaherty, and Kate Loughlin; and a large extended family.

In addition to her husband, Barbara is preceded in passing by her brothers: Martin McDonagh, Thomas McDonagh, Patrick McDonagh, Stephen McDonagh; and her sisters: Mary O’Brien and Ann Griffin.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation on MONDAY, September 29, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood, MA.

Barbara’s funeral will be held on TUESDAY, September 30, 2025, at 10:30 am with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 am in the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home.

Barbara will be laid to rest with her late husband in Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street, Norwood.
