Barry Peter McDonough, of Stoughton, most recently of Norwood, passed away peacefully
at his home on July 26, 2024. He was 60 years old.
The cherished son of the late Patrick and Anne (Leger) McDonough, Barry is survived by
his loving son Conor Michael McDonough of Natick, his children Mathew and Maura, his
sisters Katie McDonough and Colleen DiBlasi and her husband Joe both of Norwood, and
his brothers Kevin and his wife Maureen of Norwood, Brian and his wife Julie of Boston,
Steve and his wife Julie of Norfolk, Joe and his wife Kathy and Tim of Norwood.
He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews and
his extended family. Barry cherished and was deeply loved by all his family.
Barry was born, raised and educated in Norwood. A 1981 graduate of Norwood High
School, he was a proud member of the 1980 Super Bowl football team. Barry received his
Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, then proceeded to earn
his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk Law School in Boston. An engineer, an attorney and an
accomplished entertainer, Barry was always the smartest and kindest man in the room. His
sense of humor was always quick and fun, and his joy at making others happy was
boundless.
Barry began his career at GTE in Needham. After receiving his JD, he was a successful
sole practitioner operating his own Law Practice. He often worked pro bono for those who
couldn’t afford legal help. He then became a valued member of senior management at
Citizens Bank, where he made many close friends and colleagues.
Barry’s lifelong passion was Magic. He visited the famous “Jack’s Joke Shop” in Boston at
the age of eight, bought his first trick and from then on, Barry the Magician flourished for
decades. He took great enjoyment from operating his side magic business and he truly
loved performing and using his talent to bring joy and happiness to many. Besides the many
parties where he performed, Barry would visit hospitals where he would bring smiles of
wonder to both staff and patients with his skills.
Visiting hours for relatives and friends are Tuesday, July 30 at 4-7pm at the Kraw-Kornack
Funeral Home, 1248 Washington St. Norwood with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary”s
Church, 176 Washington Street, East Walpole at 10:30am on Wednesday, July 31. Private
burial will be held at Highland Cemetery in Norwood at a later date. Donations in his memory may be
