GRIFFIN, CAROLYN Jean (Costello), Born in Hyde Park, MA on March 19, 1943 to James and Alice Costello, Carolyn was the youngest of 3 girls. Carolyn's family, including her sisters Kathleen and Patricia moved to Norwood in 1952. Carolyn attended Norwood High School with her lifelong friends Denise, Judy, and Joanne and graduated from the "school on the hill" in 1960. She went on to work at Liberty Mutual, attended Burdett Business College and secured a job at EPSCO. On a cold December evening in 1962, Carolyn met her husband Daniel J. Griffin at a house party on Bonney Lane in Norwood. They married in 1965 and bought their first home on Hill Street, across from Carolyn's mom and dad. Carolyn and Dan soon became the parents to 2 girls, Leanne and Julie, and later moved to Victoria Circle, where they then raised their daughters. Carolyn immersed herself in her community. She regularly volunteered for the FISH program, RESPITE, the Catholic Women's Club, Food Pantry, at St. Catherine's school as a home economics cooking teacher, bazaar artist, helper at bingo, CCD teacher, and Girl Scout leader, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Timothy's. When not volunteering or caring for her two girls, Carolyn took on various jobs. She worked downtown at Liggett's Rexall Drugs counter, was a town census taker, served as a milk lady at the Oldham School, and worked as an administrative assistant at North Hill in Needham. Carolyn's unique gift to walk into any store and connect with 6 friends and make 5 others while she stood in the checkout line was unmatched. Her friendly demeanor and ability to remember names helped her to become a successful salesperson, selling Stanley Home products, Avon and then real estate in Norwood for over 20 years. When not in Norwood with family and friends, selling homes, at her Tuesday Bowling/Card group, participating in the Art Association or Norwood Evening Garden Club, Carolyn could be found traveling to Longboat Key, Alaska, Ireland, California, Arizona, or with her feet tucked in the sand sitting in her chair on a Cape Cod beach. Cape Cod was Carolyn's home away from home. She enjoyed sharing her summers with her family, taking bike trips to Windmill Beach, playing golf, taking a drive after dinner to Cape Cod Creamery for a frozen pudding waffle cone, and a stroll with Dan to "Kathy's" beach to watch the sunset.Carolyn's love for gardening and eye-catching colors was showcased in both her South Yarmouth and Norwood gardens. Her creativity was apparent in the window boxes and potted plants that adorned both homes, and was artistically captured in many of her beautiful paintings. Among Carolyn's many interests was her love of music. Carolyn was known as a great wedding dancer, for her car concerts of Old Cape Cod, and for her piano playing. Carolyn also made scrumptious baked goods, including the best Whoopie pies and lemon squares and always had baking ingredients laid out on her counter to make a cake for a friend that was ill or someone who she thought just might like to have a cranberry swirl coffee cake to go with their afternoon tea. After a life full of smiles, laughter and a courageous journey with Alzheimer's, Carolyn leaves behind her husband of 57 years Daniel, her furry canine companion Piper, daughter Leanne Griffin Cordischi, her son-in-law Steve Cordischi, granddaughters Amelia, Tricia and Erica, and her younger daughter Julie Griffin Cherella, her son-in-law Steve Cherella and step-granddaughter Kori, her sister Kathleen, cousin Janet, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, of whom she loved with all her heart. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 10:30am at St. Timothy Parish 650 Nichols Street Norwood, MA 02062. Burial will follow at Knollwood Memorial Park 319 High Street Canton MA 02021. Arrangements by the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, Norwood, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do acts of kindness in Carolyn's memory.
