CURLEY, CHARLES Z. Sr. of Alton, NH passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, at the age of 89. Son of the late Thomas S. and Dorothy (Bushee) Curley.
Beloved husband of 63 years of Shirley (Doucette) Curley also of Alton, NH. Loving and devoted father of Michelle Scanlon and her husband Timothy of East Walpole, the late Charles Curley Jr. and his wife Paula of Norwood, and Paul Curley and his wife Mary Catherine “Cathy” of Norwood. Proud Papa of Lauren and her fiancé Brenden, Sam, and Jennifer Scanlon, Caroline, Brian, and Michael Curley, and Maggie and Patrick Curley. Brother of Barbara Curley of Norwood, David Curley of San Francisco, and the late Margaret Curley, Dorothy Pisini, Thomas Curley, Geraldine Gleason, Jacqueline Wolfe, Nancy Curley, and many late in-laws. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Victor Pisini and by his many nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a 1954 graduate of Norwood High School and a 1956 graduate of Bentley College, followed by his service in the US Army from 1956 - 1958. Following his service in the Army, Charlie met his future wife, Shirley. Charlie had a long and successful sales career at Longview Fibre Company and was a member of the Boston Paper Trade Association. He was also a former member and officer of the Norwood Democratic Town Committee.
He was a loving friend and mentor to many and was a great supporter of the International Rett Syndrome Foundation. Charlie was also known for his many years of traveling, spending time with his family on Lake Winnipesaukee, playing golf, being an avid reader of history and politics, and as a devoted Bruins, Red Sox, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. Charlie was lesser known for his background role in the motion picture film Rudy.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Marie St. Pierre, Charlie’s special aide for the past 9 months who quickly became a good friend to the family.
Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 4:00pm - 7:00 pm, at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, NORWOOD, MA.
Charlie’s Funeral will be held from the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am, in St. Timothy Catholic Church, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood.
Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Winter Street, Norwood.
