Obituary of Claire Ann (MacDonald) Pourbaix

Claire Ann (MacDonald) Pourbaix, of Norwood, died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital - Needham after a brief illness. She was 92.

Born, raised, and educated in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Katherine (MacGilvray) MacDonald.

Mrs. Pourbaix continued her education at the Forsyth Dental School in Boston. After graduation in 1949, she joined the staff at the Forsyth Dental Infirmary as a dental hygienist. It was here that she met her husband to be, Dr. John “Jack” M. Pourbaix.

A week after her marriage to Dr. Pourbaix, the couple moved to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada for several years. She and her young family would relocate back to the United States in 1960, settling in Norwood, where she would raise her family.

Mrs. Pourbaix and her husband were active communicants and parishioners at St. Timothy Church in Norwood, as well as leaders in the FA Cleveland School PTA and the Xaverian Brothers High School Parents Council. She enjoyed spending time at the family home in East Dennis, along with traveling, reading and had a passion for antiquing.

She was the beloved wife of Dr. John “Jack” M. Pourbaix, DDS for 66 years, who passed in 2021.

Mrs. Pourbaix is survived by her loving children John M. Pourbaix, Jr. and his wife Susan of Walpole, Michele Pourbaix Gross and her husband Donald of Sagamore Beach, Gene W. Pourbaix and his wife Noelle of Pembroke and Jill A. Pourbaix of Centerville.

Cherished “Mimi” of Danielle and Jay Pourbaix, Tyler, Christopher and Erica Hawley, Bailey Pourbaix, Torey Mecley Melia, Erin and Ryan Mecley and her great grandchildren Reagan and Rylie Hawley and Beau Melia.

Mrs. Pourbaix was predeceased by her two grandchildren, Melissa and Casey Pourbaix along with her sister Mary and brother-in-law John Montgomery.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 7 from 9-10 AM at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High Street, Westwood at 10:30 AM. Interment will be held in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
