Esther C. (Gately) Jennings, of Walpole passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 28th at the age of 81. She was the beloved wife of 59 years to Richard P Jennings Jr and mother of Richard P Jennings III, Sissy (Esther C) Ciavattone, Kelly-Ann Andre and John all of Walpole, Tracy L Bromley & Thomas of Plainville and Eric M Jennings & Tina of Nottingham, NH. She was the proud grandmother to her 10 grandkids, who were her pride and joy - Jessica, Nicole, Ricky, Jake, Dylan, Justin, Colin, Courtney, Shannon and Cassidy.
She was the daughter to the late Evelyn V (Ritchie) Connors and sister to the late Evelyn G "Dunnie" McCarthy and her late husband Joe, the late Martin Gately, and she is survived by her brother Edward L Connors and his wife Meg of Hampton, NH. She has many nieces, nephews and friends whom she adored.
Esther was born and raised in Jamaica Plain until the age of 10. She then moved to Sharon, graduating from Sharon High School in 1958. Esther married her high school sweetheart Richie on June 2, 1962, and in 1966 the two went on to build their forever home in Walpole. She was a stay-at-home mom and raised her children until they were of school age, then worked as a "clothing expediter" for many years. When her grandchildren came into the picture, she selflessly became a stay at home "Nana". As her grandchildren grew and went off to school, she took on (in her words) "the best job ever" as a crossing guard for Old Post Road School at the corner of Old Post Road and Route 27. Esther cherished all of her students and treated them as she would her own grandchildren.
Esther was known for always having a smile on her face and lending a helping hand. She constantly put others first and herself last, that was just the way she was. She will be missed forever.
In lieu of flowers Esther's family has requested that donations be made to one of the following:
