Born in Boston, he grew up in Roslindale and graduated from English High School in 1951. He spent two years at Boston College and subsequently earned Bachelors and Masters degrees from UMass Boston. He taught in the Boston, Wrentham and Newton school districts for almost 30 years, served as president of the Teachers Union and was also a board member of both the Newton Men's Club and the Newton Teachers Credit Union. He volunteered at Saint Timothy's church for over eight years and served as director for part of that time.
He could often be found puttering around in the yard or in the garage and was adept at fixing almost any issue that might pop up around the house. He loved nature and enjoyed watching these shows on television, ultimately instilling in all of us a love of animals. He always seemed happiest when surrounded by his loving family.
