KAGER, GERARD H. of Norwood passed away on June 4, 2022 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of the late Lily Marjorie (Hill) Kager. Devoted father of Sabrina W. Kager of Norwood and Dawna L. Nocera of Fairfield,IA. Brother of Trudi Korda and the late Jack and Hans Kager of the Netherlands, Ria Bakker of British Columbia. Cherished grandfather of Volila Robinson of Foxboro, Guwendolyn Robinson of Phoenix, AZ, Charisse Nocera of Manchester,NH and Miranda Nocera of St. Petersburg, FL. Great grandfather of Klara Robinson and Mindy Robinson. Gerry was born on a farm near the dikes in Northern Holland, and moved to Amsterdam at 4 where his parents bought a market. They lived there through WWII. During the last year of the war, the "hunger winter", Gerry and his sister Trudi were sent to live in the country with extended family. The war years were very tough times that affected his entire life. After the war, he earned a Bachelors in Engineering from Amsterdam College. Required to join the Dutch army, he finished boot camp and in lieu of remaining in the army, he emigrated to Canada with only $25. He secured a job at a remote site close to Alaska improving his English, learning to drive and saving money. Dancing lessons paid off as he met his future wife, Lily, at a Halloween dance. Sabrina and Dawna were born shortly thereafter. His U.S. engineering career began at Raytheon and ended at Hewlett Packard, where he worked for over 25 years in the medical equipment division. He was a treasured mentor for many new engineers there. He and Lily enjoyed traveling, listening to music-especially classical, walking, and visiting with family. Gerry cared for his wife, Lily, as she struggled with Alzheimer's to the end. His whimsical and patient nature endeared him to children, nieces and nephews. He was a well read, highly informed individual with an incredible vocabulary given that English was his second language. Gerry will be missed dearly by family and friends. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, July 19 4-6pm at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to a charity of your choice.
