Harry Dwight Allen

July 22, 1955 — September 27, 2017

ALLEN, HARRY Dwight, 62 of Norwood died peacefully on September 27th at Rhode Island Hospital due to chronic illness. Born and raised in Boston, Harry graduated from Hyde Park High School, Class of '75. Surviving Harry is his wife of 33 years Mary Lou Allen (Barrett), his son Daniel Allen, and his son's partner, Anya Eacmen. Harry loved sports, always cheering on his Boston Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox, and in particular the New England Patriots. In 1972, Harry met his hero Bobby Orr when Mr. Orr escorted the Stanley Cup to Boston Children's Hospital, where Harry was treated for his chronic illness as a teenager. Harry read widely, wrote poetry, and volunteered for religious, community, and veteran's service organizations. Everyone who met him knew Harry's wit and sense of humor; he loved to call up friends and relatives to share a new joke written up that day. Harry employed that sense of humor to both combat his illness and heal others. Fondly remembering Harry Allen are his friends and family, including his siblings: Susan and Paul Abramoski of Mansfield, Sandra and Roland Goguen of Taunton, Virginia Ferraro of Stuart, Florida, Patricia and Jeffrey Affeldt of Westfield, Helen Rotondi of Dedham, Michael Allen of Dedham, and Randy and Kim Allen of Boston, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Harry is predeceased by parents Harry and Virginia Allen of Canton. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning only from 10am-1pm. A Funeral Home Service will be held on Saturday Sept. 30, 2017 12:30pm at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood, MA 02062. At the request of the family burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family of Harry Allen requests donations to the Rare Diseases United Foundation, www.rarediseaseunited.org . The family thanks Rhode Island Hospital and Norwood Hospital for all their help in his final days. The family also thanks everybody who treated Harry for his chronic illness throughout his life.
