James M. Alexander, of Norwood, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him. Known for his sharp mind, quiet strength, and kindness, he was a man of deep character who left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered. He is survived by his beloved partner, Ilda Papetti, the love of his life and steadfast companion, with whom he shared a deep and enduring bond.
He was the beloved brother of the late Barbara Kiriakos and a proud uncle "Jimmy" to Christian Kiriakos and great-uncle to Keo Kiriakos. Each held a special place in his heart and brought him joy, connection, and pride. He loved them deeply and unconditionally.
Though he had no children of his own, he was surrounded by many who loved him like family—and he loved them in return. This included the extended Papetti family—Ilda’s siblings, nieces, and nephews—and a wide circle of friends who became family over the years. He made room for everyone.
He was predeceased by Ilda’s twin brother, Dino Papetti, and his wife, Beverly; her brother Louis Papetti and his wife, Margaret; her sister Mary Perosino and her husband, Vincent; and her brother Ralph Papetti and his wife, Irene.
In his early years, James proudly served in the United States Air Force—a chapter that reflected his quiet dedication and sense of duty. He devoted over 40 years to his career at Edison, where he was respected for his steady presence, intelligence, and signature dry wit. Known for his well-timed wisecracks and understated humor, he brought levity to the workday and always knew how to lift a colleague’s spirits.
Golf was one of his greatest joys, especially when paired with travel. Annual trips to Florida with a close-knit group of friends were a highlight—filled with sunshine, laughter, and the kind of stories that got better with every telling. Florian Hall was another favorite gathering place, where he could be among friends, trade jokes—some true, some tall—and simply be himself: loyal, genuine, and never dull.
His humor was quick, subtle, and perfectly suited to the moment. Whether in the workplace or with friends, he had a gift for lifting spirits and bringing people together with a quiet joke and a knowing smile.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the many others who brought light and love into James’s life, including Paula Burke; Elise Morgan and her children, Emily, Breanna, and Matthew; and Rick Papetti.
He lived with integrity, spoke honestly, and never missed a chance to share a quiet joke, offer comfort, or show up when it mattered most. He was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
