James R. Baker, age 82, of Mattapoisett and a former longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, June 25, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his family.
Jim was the devoted husband of the late Judith A. (Stanovich) Baker, who passed away on October 3, 2022.
Born in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, Jim was one of eight children born to the late James and Alice (Oulette) Baker. He was raised in Yarmouth and moved off Cape Cod during his teenage years.
A hardworking and dedicated man with a tremendous work ethic, Jim spent his entire career with Coca-Cola, where he worked as a forklift operator at the Braintree warehouse. Following his years of service, he enjoyed a well-earned retirement spanning 26 years.
In his spare time, Jim had a passion for antique cars and enjoyed buying and selling a wide variety of vehicles over the years. He was also a proud member of the Norwood Elks Lodge #1124. Above all, Jim found his greatest joy in spending time with his family and creating lasting memories with those he loved.
He is survived by his loving children: Charlene Russell and her husband Peter of East Freetown; Cheryl Fundora and her husband Carlos of Norwood; and Stephen Baker and his wife Christine of Mattapoisett. He was the proud grandfather of Juli Riley and Madison Baker and the cherished great-grandfather of Thomas Evans. He is also survived by his siblings: Priscilla Welch of Maricopa, Arizona; Florence Hill of Taunton; Eugene Baker of Burnside, Kentucky; and Ronald Baker of Lakeville, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Jim was predeceased by his siblings Robert Willette, Gail Baker, and his twin brother, William Baker.
Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood.
