MATTSON, Jean A. of Walpole formerly of Norwood passed away on June 5, 2026 at the age of 89, on her wedding anniversary, and just short of her 90th birthday.
Beloved wife of Richard E. Mattson, Sr. of Walpole (deceased). Devoted mother of Richard E. Mattson Jr. and his wife Janet of Wrentham, Barbara J. Pepicelli and her husband Tony of Attleboro, Jeffery A. Mattson and his wife Denise of Taunton and Jeanne Destito and her husband Frank of Walpole
Sister to Patsy McCoy of Norwood. She was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Laracy; Lorenda Clark; Christine Wilder; Gabriel Costanzo; Rosemarie, Raphael, Rocco, Daniel and Michael Grasso.
Grandmother to 12 grandchildren: Patrick Mattson; Jenna Romero; Anthony Pepicelli; Richard Mattson 3rd; Derek Pepicelli; Ben Mattson; Troy Pepicelli; Sarah Guilmette; Joshua Mattson; Gina Destito; Madison Destito; and Mia Destito; and great grandmother to 12, all of whom Jean loved with all her heart.
Jean had passion for cooking for her family, and lived for Saturday night dinners with her children and grandchildren.
She would always try out her new recipes on the family and would always question when someone was caught not taking seconds, often asking, “so you didn’t like it? If you liked it you’d have more.”
On those Saturday nights, the family would all sit around the table, forks in hand, anticipating another recipe to try as the microwave timer went off in the other room. Not a single space of dinner table real estate had ever gone uncovered by one of Jean’s latest creations.
After Jean and Richard moved out of their house and into housing, the family dinners stopped, but Jean did not stop cooking. She then started preparing daily lunches for grandson Richard Mattson 3rd (now sadly deceased) and then weekly dinners for grandson Anthony Pepicelli and great grandson AJ.
Just as Jesus often used meals as a profound way to connect with people, so did Jean use meals to bring her family together as much as she could. Her abundant love of family was seen in the abundance of food she lovingly prepared each and every week.
Visiting hours will be held on WEDNESDAY, June 17, 2026, 4:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m. in the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood, MA. A Funeral Service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Jean will be laid to rest privately.
