Joan (Doddis) Meears, age 87, a longtime Norwood resident, passed away on the morning of Friday, December 26, 2025, at The Ellis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Norwood. She was the devoted wife to the late Roy Wesley Alderson Meears, Jr.
Joan was born on July 15, 1938, in Boston. She was the daughter of the late Albert J. Doddis and the late Florence R. (Angeleri) Doddis.
She was the mother of Robert Roy Meears and Andrew A. Meears and his wife Rachel of Norwood. Beloved grandmother of Desiree, the late Katyln, Bret, Robert Roy, Jr., Chloe and Anthony. Loving half-sister of the late Carol Nielsen Anderson of California.
Joan was a retired employee of Little Brown and Company Publishers, where she worked as a Returns Processor until 1998. Prior to that she was a teacher of Romance Languages for more than 10 years. While raising her family she taught adult education classes in Italian for the towns of Norwood, Walpole, Foxborough and Mansfield. In her later years she worked at Sourcecorp in Norwood, part-time, doing office work.
She attended Washington Grammar School and Crosby High School in Waterbury, CT, graduating Valedictorian in 1956. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Boston University College of Liberal Arts in 1960 with the distinction of Cum Laude.
Joan was an author of her own book, “With a Women’s Voice”, a collection of her own poems in 2001. She also published a memoir of her growing up days in Waterbury, CT, entitled “The View from 1027”.
In her spare time, Joan collected books and loved to listen to classical music and jazz. She was a member of the Norwood Senior Center and the Norwood Women’s Club. Above all, she enjoyed having her family around her, and always gave them unconditional love.
Joan’s funeral with visitation will be held on FRIDAY, January 2, 2026, at 10:00am with a Funeral Service to commence at 11:00am in the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood MA.
Joan will be laid to rest with her late husband in Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
In lieu of flowers, Joan’s family has requested that you perform an act kindness for someone who is in need of physical or spiritual comfort.
