Joanne Mary (O’Leary) Burke, of North Attleborough, formerly of Norwood, passed away Tuesday morning, August 13, 2024, at home surrounded by her family. She was 76.
Beloved wife of the late Laurence M. Burke, Joanne is survived by her loving children Charlene Miconi and her husband Joseph, Theresa A. Burke-Danforth and her husband Richard, Danielle D. Antonetti and her husband Christopher and Laurence M. Burke, Jr. all of North Attleborough, her dear siblings Marilyn Gregory of Norwood, Nancy and Rita Battles both of Milton, William Battles III of FL, Daniel Battles of Harwich and Dennis Battles of Yarmouth, her cherished grandchildren Emily, Nicholas, Carl, Griffin, Lauren, Renee, Ashley, Emma, Matthew, Luke, and Deanna and her great granddaughter Aria.
She was predeceased by her sister Cathleen Colella.
The daughter of the late Charles Thomas and Mary T. (Henry) O'Leary, she was born in Boston. Raised by her mother the late Cathleen Battles in the Jamaica Plain section of the city, she graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School and attended the Chandler School for Women in Boston. As a younger woman Joanne had been employed in an administrative position with one of Boston’s financial firms.
A woman of strong faith, she was a devout Catholic having a special devotion to Mary and prayed a daily rosary. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting dinner parties and kept her home as well as her heart open to all. Joanne was known for her community volunteering whether it be for the local Meals on Wheels or the area Welcome Wagon. She developed friendships that would last a lifetime. She enjoyed music and dancing and could often be found perusing the racks at Macy’s. The most important thing to Joanne was her family.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Joanne’s life at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 20th at St. Mary’s Church, Washington Street, East Walpole. Visitation will be held at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood on Monday from 4-8PM. Interment will be held at the Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
