John W. Murphy Jr.

MURPHY, JOHN W. Jr. of Marshfield formerly of Norwood passed away on Sept. 22, 2016 at the age of 63. Loving brother of Linda B. Rau of Norwood and the late Anne M. Intraversato. Son of the late John W. and Nella J. (Fillippeli) Murphy. Cherished uncle of Courtney Rau Rogers and her husband Christopher of Norwood, Colleen Rau Reynolds and her husband Darrin of Norwood, Catherine Gustin-Rau and her wife Beth of Norwood, Gina Intraversato of Marshfield, and David Intraversato and his wife Alexandra of Freeport, ME. Great uncle of Ben, Max, Carly, Nicholas and Grace. He was a 1973 graduate of Norwood High School. Mr. Murphy was an active member of the Roads to Responsibility residential community. In 2007 he received a commendation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives for his successful transition to community living despite many obstacles and challenges. Mr. Murphy participated annually in the Special Olympics, was a member of the Marshfield Kiwanis Aktion Club, and enjoyed raising funds for charity. He loved to sing and performed with the Inner-Rhythm Choir, with whom he recorded an album, and he exhibited several of his paintings at local art shows. Mr. Murphy enjoyed bowling, dining out, and was an avid Patriots fan. He faced many challenges throughout his life with a quiet courage and perseverance that enabled him to succeed. Funeral from the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood, MA Tuesday Sept. 27, 2016 at 9am followed by a funeral mass at 10am in St. Timothy's Church Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Monday Sept. 26, 2016 from 4-8pm. Burial will be at a later date.
