Obituary

John T. Solomon, age 78, of Foxboro, a former longtime resident of Canton, passed away surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of his devoted family, on the evening of Friday, April 10, 2026, at Sturdy memorial Hospital in Attleboro, following a valiant 10-year battle with cancer. He was the devoted and loving husband for 52 wonderful years to his wife: Leslie (Winn) Solomon.

Born in Norwood, John was one of five children born to the late Phillip and Najlae (Tomm) Solomon. He was raised and brought up in Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School with the Class of 1966. John furthered his education by attending UMass Amherst.

Wanting to give back to the community he was raised in, John worked for many years as a Physical Education and Health teacher at Norwood High School. His dedication beyond the classroom stretched to the athletic fields, where he coached various sports, helping many student-athletes over the years. During the summers, John spent time working as a counselor at Sharon Country Day Camp where he was the Project Adventure instructor.

Outside of work and in his spare time, John was an avid New England sports fan cheering on the Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox. He also enjoyed boating and golf. Above all, he most cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for being a loving husband, father, and Giddoo.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his proud sons: Matthew Solomon and his wife Rachel and Darin Solomon and his wife Jenelle; his treasured grandchildren: Nora, Henry, Tyler, and Butch; his siblings: Phyllis (Solomon) Spicer and her husband David, Steven Solomon and his wife Carolyn, and Robert Solomon and his wife Joan; and also many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, John is preceded in passing by his sister Jacqueline (Solomon) Shalhoub and her husband John.

John’s Graveside Service will be held on THURSDAY, April 16, 2026, at 11:00am in Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street, Norwood. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Highland Cemetery Office at 10:45am.
