Joseph Roosevelt Chery, age 74, a longtime resident of Norwood, MA, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. He was the loving and devoted husband of Rosane Estinfort.

Born in Aux Cayes, Haiti, Joseph was the son of the late Fernand Perrin and Antonia Chery. He grew up and was educated in Haiti, where he began his career as a schoolteacher before immigrating to the United States.

After arriving to the U.S., Joseph initially settled in Brooklyn, New York. There, he quickly learned the streets of New York City while working as a taxi driver, where he began building his new life. Joseph later relocated to Massachusetts, where he was employed by the City of Boston as a Health Inspector.

Outside of work, Joseph had many interests and passions. He was an avid reader who enjoyed collecting a wide variety of nonfictional books and novels. Joseph found joy in learning, and was always eager to share the knowledge he gained with those around him. He also had a deep love for music and took pleasure in listening to and playing different instruments, while also building a collection of musical records.

After retirement, Joseph became known as a true bargain hunter and enjoyed visiting his local thrift store during his free time. For him, it was never about finding a good deal. He found warmth in discovering and collecting used items that he believed still held value and meaning, always finding a special place for them in his home.

Joseph was a devoted father and husband who was always willing to provide for his family and took pride in caring for his home. He felt a deep responsibility for those he loved and believed that his purpose was to make sure his family was supported, safe, and well cared for.

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by his children, Rooselie Chery, Jimmy Chery, and Meghan Chery; his five grandchildren, Nya, Arya, Lucas, Elodie, and Brille; his stepdaughter, Samrana Bertrand; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood, MA.

Joseph will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
