Joseph R. DaCosta of Attleboro, formerly of Norwood, passed away on March 16, 2025, peacefully at his home. He was 72 years old.
Joseph was born in Portugal to the late John and Maria (Barreira). They came to the US in 1966 and settled in Norwood. Joseph attended Norwood Senior High School and later enjoyed a successful career as an inspector, working for Raytheon, and several other companies before his retirement. He was an avid sports fan, who loved all of the Boston sports teams. He enjoyed watching the games or listening on his headphones while manning the grill. His favorite sport was soccer, and his favorite team was Sporting Clube de Portugal. He shared his love for soccer with his children and grandchildren and could often be found kicking the ball around the backyard with them.
Joseph’s Portuguese heritage was very important to him, and he was a longtime member of the Norwood Portuguese Club. He loved taking pictures and enjoyed many trips to the beaches on the Cape in the summer. His favorite trip of all was when he and his wife Grace took their sons to Disney World in 1992.
Joseph was an awesome person whom everyone loved. He loved to laugh and to make people laugh. He loved music and dancing, always lending his voice to family singalongs at parties and when someone would bring out the accordion.
Above all else, Joseph was happiest surrounded by his family, especially his children and beloved grandchildren.
Joseph was the dear and devoted husband of Grace (DaSilva). Loving father of Joseph DaCosta and his wife Kerry of Hanover, and Ryan DaCosta and his wife Nichole of Dighton. He was the cherished grandfather, “Papa,” of Joseph, Benjamin, Matthew, Sam, Savannah, Haileigh, and Aubrey. Dear brother of Manuel DaCosta and his wife Cecilia, and M. Fatima Preto and her husband John. Loving son of the late John and Maria (Berriera) DaCosta. He is also survived by several loving brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
