Joseph (Joe) DiMaria, age 79, longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at AccentCare Inpatient Hospice Center in Milton after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. He was the loving husband to Marcia (Greene) DiMaria of Norwood and the late Maureen (Shershin) DiMaria.
Born in Patterson, NJ, Joe was one of four children of the late Salvatore DiMaria and Mary (Padalino) Siciliano. He was raised in Clifton, NJ and attended Clifton High School (1963). He went on to graduate from Newark College of Engineering (1967), where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Joe had a long career as an engineer, working in a variety of positions at Polaroid Corporation, Rust Craft Greeting Card Company, BASF, State Street Bank, Northrop, and Hit or Miss. He retired from state service as a Senior Engineer with the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority.
An active community member in the Town or Norwood, Joe was a Town Meeting Member and longtime member of the Conservation Commission, at one time serving as chair of that group. In his spare time, Joe enjoyed carpentry, working on vintage British cars, and rebuilding spring-driven clocks. As a boy and teenager, Joe was actively involved in Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1961. He also continued his childhood interest in model trains throughout his life, creating a large layout in the basement of his home. Joe enjoyed spending time in Middletown, RI, especially swimming and relaxing at Sachuest Beach.
In addition to his wife, Marcia, Joe is survived by his children: Christine Holton and husband Kenny of Apopka, FL, Joe DiMaria of Bridgewater, and Victoria DiMaria of Norwood; grandchildren: Brandy Peoples and Robin Theisen; four great-grandchildren; brothers: James DiMaria and wife Jane of Totowa, NJ and Thomas DiMaria of Manhattan, NY; son-in-law: Saul Lewis; and numerous extended family members and friends.
In addition to his late wife, Marueen, Joe is preceded in passing by his children: Cathy DiMaria and Michael DiMaria; sister: Marianne Brandenburg; and stepfather: Thomas Siciliano.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation on WEDNESDAY, October 1, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood, MA.
Joseph will be laid to rest privately with his late wife and daughter in Highland Cemetery, 320 Winter Street, Norwood.
