Joseph "Joey" Kane, age 51 passed away suddenly at his home in Emlenton, PA, on Saturday, March 12th. Born in Norwood, MA, on June 29, 1965, he was the son of the late Alfreda and John Kane. He attended St. Catherine's of Sienna grammar school in Norwood, and was a graduate of Blue Hills Regional High School. Joe proudly served the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Elmer Montgomery FF1082. He was personally awarded the Navy Commendation Medal from the U.S. Naval Secretary, for his heroic act of bravery in which he extinguished a savage fire in the ship's hull...ultimately saving his fellow crew and the vessel. A journeyman by trade, Joe excelled at all things physical. His athleticism and physical prowess were notable, as was his superior work ethic. Most recently, Joe withstood a broken hand for several months because he had to "finish the job!" Joe was a devoted father to his daughter, Maeghan Kane of Tampa, FL; beloved brother to Peter Kane of Norwood, MA, Tim Kane of Marlboro, MA and his wife, Kevin Kane of Edgartown, MA, Jim Kane of Norwood, MA, Jacqueline Kane Smith of Norwood, MA and her husband; and loving, "crazy" uncle to many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home in Norwood, MA, on Wednesday, March 22nd from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held directly at Saint Catherine's of Sienna Church at 547 Washington St. in Norwood, at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, March 23rd. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe's name to St. Catherine's Parish of Norwood, or any organization which supports U.S. Veterans, of which he was a proud member.
