Judith A. “Judy” Maloney, age 80, a resident of Norwood, passed away on the afternoon of Friday, September 5, 2025, at German Centre Extended Care in West Roxbury. She was the devoted and caring wife for 50 wonderful years to her husband, Francis “Frank” Maloney of Norwood.
Born in Forest City, Iowa, Judy was the youngest of three children born to the late Antone and Ada (Goldsmith) Hakanson. She was raised in Rochelle, Illinois and attended Rochelle Public Schools. Following high school, Judy attended Northern Illinois University.
During her sophomore year of college, on a whim, she went for an interview with American Airlines. That interview would turn into a 37-year career as a flight attendant with American Airlines.
Judy was initially based of out Chicago, before taking a role with the domicile in Boston, where she would meet her husband. She loved being a flight attendant and enjoyed the bonds she made with her fellow attendants, while providing the utmost service to those passengers who she had the responsibility of caring for.
Judy was a parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Norwood.
In her spare time, Judy liked to keep her home in tip-top shape and catch up on her favorite tv shows. She loved to socialize with friends and attend theatrical productions, especially at the Walpole Footlighters. She also enjoyed spending time on the Cape, renting a house in Hyannis most summers. Above all, Judy treasured the time spent and memories made with her family.
In addition to her husband, Judy is survived by her proud and cherished daughter: Molly Maloney and her partner Jeffrey Hayes of Walpole; her siblings: David Hakanson and his late wife Kit of Rochelle, IL and Dorey Hakanson of Amherst, MA; and also numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend Visitation on WEDNESDAY, September 10, 2025, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington Street, Norwood, MA.
Judy’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on THURSDAY, September 11, 2025, at 11:00 am in St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 547 Washington Street, Norwood, MA. There will be no funeral cortege from the funeral home prior to the commencement of the Funeral Mass.
Judy will be laid to rest in Holy Hood Cemetery, 584 Heath Street, Chestnut Hill.
