Julia Quinn O'Malley was blessed with 93 years of a loving, long and fulfilling life. She was a "force of nature" who loved to walk to Mass at St. Catherines every day. She was gracious, hospitable, loyal, strong, independent, stubborn, and dearly loved by all that knew her. Julia was committed to her Catholic faith, the Blessed Virgin Mary, her Family, her Country and her native Ireland.
Julia was born in Doorus, Kinvara, Co. Galway Ireland. Julia was the proud daughter of Julia (Folan) and Michael Quinn. Julia immigrated to the United States (Norwood) in 1949 and met the love of her life, Dara "Johnnie" O'Malley shortly after her arrival. Julia and Dara shared a loving 64 years of marriage together until his death in 2014.
Julia leaves her legacy, rich Irish culture and traditions with her five children; Mary and Dino Licudine, Noreen O'Malley-Stampfl, Patricia and Peter Bilafer all of Mansfield; Dara O'Malley of Norwood, Sean and Jenny O'Malley of Bridgewater. Eight Grandchildren: Dennis and Melissa, Siobhan and Kyle, Colleen, Joseph, Brendan and Lexi, Lauren, Ronan and Julia and two Great Grandchildren; Alexandra and Michaela.
Julia is survived by Brother-In-Law Michael Conroy of Craughwell, Ireland. Long-time dear friends Agnes McDonough and Ann Folan of Norwood and Margaret (Nolan) Cunnaine of Bloomfield, Ct. Julia is predeceased by her sisters and husbands: Mary and John Farren of Moville, Ireland, Nora and James Nolan of Finavarra, Ireland, Bridie Conroy of Craughwell, Ireland.
Julia loved and was proud of her many nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren from Ireland and the United States that visited her often. Every weekend, one could drive by the O'Malley home, and listen to the sounds of Irish Music and dance; smell the aroma of Irish Bread, Scones and Banana Bread and hear the laughter and conversations in her native Gaelic. Her door was always open to anyone. Everyone was always greeted with a cup of tea, Irish Bread, banter, friendship and support.
Throughout her life Julia was a one of the founding members of the Norwood Irish Music Club; member of Canton Irish Cultural Center, St. Catherine's Women's Club, a communicant at St. Catherine's Church in Norwood and volunteer at the Norwood Food Bank and Norwood Election Committee. Julia was known for spreading her faith through her "handmade" rosary beads. She distributed these rosaries to Baptisms, First Communions, Confirmations and Funerals at various area Catholic Churches. Her "handmade" rosary beads reached the Catholic Missions in Brazil, South America, the African Continent, Knock Shrine in Ireland as well as the 911 Memorial in New York and the Boston Marathon Memorial.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 10, 2023 from 4-8pm at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood, MA. Funeral from the Funeral Home, Tuesday April 11, 2023 at 10am followed by a funeral mass at 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Norwood. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Norwood, MA.
