Laura A. Abrahamson lovingly known as Laurie Berrie, passed away on May 1, 2026 in Dedham, MA at the age of 65. Born on May 7, 1960, in Boston, MA Laura brought warmth, laughter, and a touch of sass to every room she entered – and usually left it with a new friend and a party invitation.
Laura’s early years were spent in Mattapan, where she attended Saint Gregory’s Elementary and High School through grade 11 before graduating from Norwood High School in 1978. She carried her sharp wit and strong work ethic into her professional life, beginning her career in payroll at Analog Devices in August 1982. After more than a decade she brought her talents to The Gillette Company from May 1997 to June 2007. Laura capped off her career with ten years of dedicated service as Payroll Manager at the New England Center for Children, retiring in August 2023. Her colleagues will remember her not only for her meticulous attention to detail but also for her ability to make even the most mundane spreadsheet feel like part of a celebration, once balanced to the penny!
At home, Laura was the undisputed queen of parties – both planning them and attending them. If there was music playing and food to be served (preferably something she cooked herself), you could bet Laura was at the center of it all with a mischievous grin and maybe a bottle of beer in hand. Cooking wasn’t just a hobby, it was her love language. Whether it was a holiday feast or Tuesday night dinner, no one left her table hungry – or without leftovers.
Family vacations were another of Laura’s specialties. She delighted in organizing every detail – from accommodations down to matching T-shirts – ensuring that memories were made and stories were collected (some best told only after the kids went to bed). Her sense of humor and knack for story telling turned even minor travel mishaps into legendary family lore.
Laura leaves behind her ever-devoted husband Carl, who stood by her side through every adventure and trial life had to offer. She is survived by her son Brian Abrahamson and his wife Jen of Warminster, PA and their son Austin – the light of her life who she loved fiercely; and her son Alec Abrahamson of Dedham, MA.
She is lovingly remembered by her siblings and extended family: Kathryn McGowan and her daughters Melissa and Michelle McGowan of Manchester, NH; Linda Palacios and her husband Rafael and son John Hansbury of Walpole, MA; Carol Hansbury and her daughter Katie of Norwood, MA; Daniel Brenn and his wife Aimee and their children Mollie and Benjamin of Franklin, MA.
Laura was predeceased by both sets of parents who helped shape the vibrant woman she became; Joann Brenn (Karchunes) and her husband Robert of Walpole; and John F. Hansbury and his wife Debra of Berkeley Springs, WV.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that somewhere out there, Laura is already planning the next great gathering – probably with extra dessert. May her memory bring laughter through tears and comfort to all who knew and loved her.
Visiting hours will be at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home, 1248 Washington St, Norwood, on Sunday, May 17th, 2026 from 9:00AM to 11:00AM. A Funeral Service will be held immediately following the visitation at 11:00AM.
A private burial and ash spreading will be held at a later date.
Rather than sending flowers, Laura asked that donations be made to The Good Shephard Hospice Care directly at https://gscommunitycare.org/Donate and/or Newton-Wellesley Cancer Center directly at https://giving.nwh.org/mgccatnwh/
