Lois J. Judge, age 95, longtime resident of Norwood, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, June 4, 2025, surrounded by love and comfort at Benchmark Senior Living in Norwood. She was the devoted and loving wife of the late Thomas H. Judge for 72 years, who passed away on February 6, 2025.
Born on November 24, 1929, in New Haven, CT, Lois was the youngest of four children born to the late Leo J. and Marie (Rodgers) Whelan. She was raised and grew up in New Haven and graduated from Commercial High School.
After marrying her husband, they lived briefly in Newton and relocated to Norwood where she and her husband permanently settled and raised their family.
Lois worked for many years at Factory Mutual in the Publication Department. She well deservedly retired in 1984 with over 20 years of employment with the company.
A woman with a kind heart, Lois was very involved and active with many different organizations. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years, a very active member of the Norwood Catholic Women’s Club, and a hospice volunteer for many years. She gave back to the Town of Norwood through her significant participation in the Norwood Senior Center and her service as Chair of the Council on Aging.
In her spare time, Lois was an avid reader who participated in the Norwood Middle School Reading Buddy program. She liked to knit making afghans for family, friends and good causes. She especially enjoyed bowling and was a proud member of her bowling league where she made life-long friends. Above all, she was most happy with the time spent and memories made with her treasured family.
Lois is survived by her cherished daughters: Marie F. Judge-Hurd of W. Roxbury, Kathleen E. Tucker and her husband Kenneth of Norton and Alice J. Gillan and her husband Allan of Scituate; her grandchildren: Rev. Wallace Hurd and his wife Alison, Michelle Tyer, Lisa Tucker, Katherine Drain and her husband Stephen, Michael, Thomas and Margaret Gillan; her great-grandchildren: Ayden Tyer, Luke and Maeve Hurd; and also, numerous extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lois is preceded in passing by her siblings: Elizabeth (Betty) Whelan, Leo J. Whelan, and William R. Whelan.
Visiting hours will be held on TUESDAY, June 10, 2025, from 9-10:30am at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St., Norwood, MA.
Following the visitation a funeral mass will be held at 11:00am in St. Catherine Of Siena Church, 547 Washington Street, Norwood, MA. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Norwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lois’s name may be made to the Norwood Senior Center, 275 Prospect Street, Norwood, MA 02062.
