Maria (Gironda) DeGiorgio, of Norwood, passed away Wednesday morning, September 11, 2024, at her daughter’s residence. She was 76.
The beloved wife of the late Nicola DeGiorgio, Maria is survived by her loving children Domenic G. DeGiorgio and his wife Gislane of Foxboro and Maria C. Smolynsky and her husband Adrian of Charlton, her cherished grandchildren Julia DeGiorgio, Tatiana and Nico Smolynsky, her dear brothers and sister Vito Gironda of Calabria, Italy, Onofrio Gironda of Norwood, Antonio Gironda of Peabody and Olivina Gironda of Hingham. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
The daughter of the late Vito and Dosolina Gironda, she was born and raised in the village of Centrache in Calabria, Italy where she resided until immigrating to the United States as a young girl. Originally moving to Hull, she settled in Norwood shortly thereafter where she would raise her family.
Maria was a Nanny and housekeeper and developed wonderful lifelong relationships with the families she had worked with.
Maria’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, she was an amazing cook and an avid gardener who loved to sing and socialize with her many friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 form 8:00am-9:30am at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington Street, Norwood, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 10am in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Norwood. Interment will be held at the Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
