Mary B. (Marinakis) Courtney

COURTNEY, MARY (Marinakis) passed away peacefully in her home in Westwood, MA on December 6, 2020. Born in Boston to Charles and Eva (Constance) Marinakis, she grew up in West Roxbury, MA with her two sisters, the late Helen Fanandakis of Norwood and the late Agnes Sakellson of New York. She graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and went on to graduate from Boston Clerical and Hickox Secretarial School. She later became the head Executive Secretary to Dr. Sheldon Wolf, Physician and Chief of Infectious Disease at Tufts New England Medical Center and worked with him until his passing. Later, she worked with Dr. Stephen Wright, Chief of Medicine, at Faulkner Hospital until she retired. After retiring, she remained active by volunteering at Norwood Hospital for 14 years. Mary loved her books and was very well read. She enjoyed getting into discussions on multiple topics, but more importantly, she was a great listener. She had many close friends and everyone who knew her enjoyed her company and found her to be a good kind person. Beloved Aunt of Frances Clairmont, D.M.D. and her husband George Clairmont, M.D.; Stanley Sakellson and his wife Vicky Evangelidis-Sakellson DDS, MPH; Nicholas Fanandakis and his wife Rosemary; and Barbara Gableman and her husband, Fred. Cherished Sister of the late Agnes Sakellson and her late husband Fr Phillip Sakellson of New York; and the late Helen Fanandakis and her husband George of Norwood. Dear Grand Aunt to Katherine Clairmont Cunningham and her husband Derek; Phillip Sakellson and his wife Jennifer; Paul Sakellson; and Greta and her husband, Cory; Mathew Fanandakis and his wife Noel; Nicole Fanandakis. Cherished Great Grand Aunt to Mya and Mason Cunningham; Katherine and Emma Murphy; Adelaide and Ford Fanandakis. Wife of the late David Courtney. All services and burial will be private.
