HARKINS, MARY T. (Toland) of Norwood passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025 at the age of 87 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of the late Robert M. Harkins. Devoted mother of Kevin G. Harkins and his wife Deborah of Medway, Robert P. Harkins and his wife Maureen of Norwood and Daniel J. Harkins and his wife Carolyn of Wrentham. Sister of Sr Barbara Toland SSJ of Wellesley, Suzie Murphy of Whitman, Bernie Toland of Quincy and the late John Toland, Fran Toland and James Deeko Toland. Daughter of the late John and Susan (Harrison) Toland. Cherished grandmother of Brian, Laura, Patrick, Alison, Lauren, Liana and Samantha. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Boston, Ma. on May 23, 1937, Mary grew up in Dorchester and was a member of St. Margaret's Parish. She attended Msgr. Ryan Memorial High School graduating in 1955. Mary worked for the Boston Telephone Company before marrying the love of her life, Bob, in 1960. Mary was a longtime devoted parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Norwood where she was an active member of the Ladies Sodality and a longtime employee of the St. Catherine's School cafeteria. Mary loved spending summers at Green Harbor Beach in Marshfield and in later years taking many trips to Ogunquit Beach in Maine with Bob. A loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother Mary was a wonderful cook known for her gourmet meals and amazing desserts. She loved cooking for her children and grandchildren and Thursday night dinners at Mary and Bob's became a tradition that lasted for many years. Mary was also a longtime Boston sports fan and former Bruins season ticket holder. She was also especially fond of Tom Brady and the Patriots. Mary was happiest being "Nana" to her 7 grandchildren, a role she cherished and excelled at. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from 4-7pm at the Kraw Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood, MA. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Norwood. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Norwood, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the Sisters of Charity at Marillac Residence 125 Oakland Street Wellesley, MA 02481
