MAWN, MICHAEL JAMES "Jimmy" of Norwood passed away on July 6, 2021 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Kathleen (Maloney) Mawn and the late Catherine F. ("Kay" Crehan) Mawn. Devoted father of Michael James Mawn Jr. and his wife Karen of Walpole, Kerin Ann Sullivan and her husband Mark of Dennis, Dennis Patrick Mawn of Norwood, Joseph Vincent Mawn of Norwood, Phillip Gingras and his wife Katie of Plainville, Daniel Gingras of Norwood and the late Brendan Gingras. Brother of Charles Mawn of Braintree, Margaret Gillan of Quincy, Mary White of New Marlboro, Ita McGrath of Quincy, Lawrence Mawn of Braintree and the late Patrick Mawn. Cherished grandfather of Sarah, Allison, Rachael, Roseanne, Michael III, Matthew, Oliver and Huxley. Great grandfather of Kayliegh and Ava. Son of the late Michael J. and Rose Ann (Mawn) Mawn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews on both the Mawn and Crehan sides of the family whom he loved and whose company he thoroughly enjoyed. A proud son of Glenfarne, County Leitrim, Ireland he arrived in the United States in 1953. He was a stalwart of the Irish-American community where he belonged to many of the greater Boston Irish clubs and societies, including the Leitrim Society of Boston. His fondest memories were of his times with the Norwood Irish Music Club; planning and participating in the dances, the many trips including those to the Catskills and the yearly cookout in Portland, ME, as well as organizing fundraising events for any who came into some type of misfortune. For years he was proud to have brought Irish music and dancing to the local nursing homes, sharing his culture with those unable to celebrate the heritage. He was also a devote parishioner of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish since moving to Norwood in 1963.
Funeral from the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood, MA Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 10am followed by a funeral mass at 11am at St. Catherine of Siena Church , Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 from 4-8pm. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, Norwood, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to American Lung Association.
