Richard R. (Dick) Farnsworth Sr.

Richard R. Farnsworth Sr., a retired patrolman of the Brookline Police Department, passed away on December 9, 2022. He was 84 years old.


Richard grew up in Brookline and was a graduate of Brookline High School. He went on to serve the town as a police patrolman for 34 years before retiring in 1995. Richard met the love of his life, Barbara, at a house party in Newton in the early 1960's. He proposed at Lars Anderson Park in Brookline, and Barbara told him that she had to check with her mother in Ireland to make sure it was ok. Her mother gave her her blessing and they went on to enjoy 56 years of marriage.


Richard served in the National Guard where he played the french horn. He enjoyed summers on Nantasket Beach, and traveling to New Hampshire and Vermont, with the highlight of his travels being a trip to Ireland with his family in 2016. He was a member of the Elks in Norwood and was an avid Bruins fan. Above all else, Richard was happiest surrounded by his loving family.


Richard was the dear and devoted husband of Barbara (McDonagh). Loving father of Anne E. Richards-Farnsworth and her wife Laurie of Norfolk and Richard R. Farnsworth Jr. of Woonsocket, RI. Cherished grandfather, "Papa," of Chloe, Jakob and Joshua. Son of the late Williard and Maude (Strain) Farnsworth. Dear brother of the late Williard Farnsworth and Joanne Farnsworth. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.


Richard's Funeral will be from the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. NORWOOD, Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 12 pm. Visiting hours will be held Monday, December 12, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Richard will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Norwood.
