ROMBOLA, Robert Anthony 84, passed away on December 17, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Dedham, MA. Bob was born in Norwood, MA on August 18, 1932 and was a lifelong resident of Norwood. For the most of his life in Norwood, he lived at 115 Chapel Street with his family. He graduated from Norwood High School in 1950 and, although a talented artist, was pulled in a different direction by his love of horses. For years, he trained standardbred race horses at a variety of racetracks and regularly trained and raced at Bay State Raceway in Foxborough (now the site of Gillette Stadium) and Rockingham Park in Salem, NH. Bob also owned some of the racehorses in partnership with his brothers Freddie and Paul, and with longtime family friend Edward Hinds. He had a vast knowledge and recall of races and events related to standardbred and thoroughbred training and racing. Following his training career, he wrote two mystery novels about horse racing. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Maria Rombola, his brothers, Frank, Freddie and Paul, and his sisters Adeline (Dias), Edna (Falconer), Eleanor (Letts) and Mary (Crowe).
He leaves his sister-in-law, Mary Guthrie, nieces Nancy Couture, Suzanne Clark, Judy Martorano and Janice Tower, and nephews John Crowe, Robert Dias, Allen Falconer, Robert Falconer, Edward Letts, Tony Rombola and William Rombola. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Catherine of Siena Parish Church on Thursday December 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM, followed by burial at Highland Cemetery.
