SMITH, ROGER H. of Norwood and Waterville Valley, NH formerly of Braintree and S. Boston, passed away peacefully Saturday April 23, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 19, 1933, the son of the late James and Frances Smith. Roger graduated from Braintree High School in 1950 and Bentley University in 1964. He served his country in the US Air Force and then the Reserves during the Korean War. He was very active in Norwood youth sports and in 2002, he was inducted into the Braintree High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Roger was a founder and longtime coach in the Norwood Pop Warner Football organization. He was also a coach in the Norwood Nuggets Hockey Program. He was an avid softball player in many of the local men's leagues and the Sons of Italy. Roger also played semi-professional football for the Quincy Morrissey Club. He was a longtime employee at Norwood Hospital and retired from Mercer Benefits Services in Norwood. Roger was the beloved husband of Leona M. (Brady) Smith. Loving father of Michael Smith and his wife Joan of Lynnfield, Suzanne (Smith) Brennan and her husband Jack of Mansfield, Pamela (Smith) DeYeso and her husband Michael of Mansfield, Debra (Smith) Copponi and her husband John of Mansfield and Steven Smith and his wife Kristin of Tewksbury. He was the beloved and cherished grandfather of Jessica Smith, Courtney Smith, Michael J. Smith, Ryan Smith, Tyler Smith, Allison Brennan, Michael DeYeso, Kassandra DeYeso, Nicholas Copponi, Christopher Copponi, Matthew Copponi, Cameron Smith and Avery Smith. Brother of James Smith of RI and Francis "Joe" Smith of ME. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Roger was a fixture at all of his children's and grandchildren's sporting events. Funeral from the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood Wednesday April 27, 2016 at 10am followed by a funeral mass at 11am in St. Catherine of Siena Church Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday April 26, 2016 from 4-8pm. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery Norwood.
