Sean F. O'Brien

December 27, 1956 — April 8, 2025

Sean F. O'Brien, retired Brookline Police Officer, of Norwood, passed away on April 8, 2025. He was 68 years old.

Born in Cambridge, Sean grew up in Brookline and was a 1974 graduate of Brookline High School. He was a member of the graduating class of 1979 at Northeastern University and went on to serve his hometown of Brookline as a police officer for 32 years, the only job he ever wanted to do. Sean was an incredibly loving person and had many life-long friends. He maintained these friendships with weekly lunch dates at the Cafe Venice in Norwood, most recently joining his pals via facetime from the hospital.

Sean was a hockey goalie growing up and in his later years, an avid golfer. He was a fan of all Boston sports teams. He loved to read and used his great sense of humor very often when telling stories. Always incredibly personable, he remembered details about everyone he knew.

Sean loved trips to the beach in Brewster in the summertime, and he was often found sitting in his chair with his Herald, his headphones, and the occasional cooler.

A loving and dedicated father, Sean never missed any of his kids' sporting events or concerts when they were growing up, and was an incredibly proud Papa of his grandchildren. Above all else, he was happiest surrounded by his loving family.

Sean was the dear and devoted husband of Karen "Candie" (Korell) O'Brien. Loving father of Taylor O'Brien-Ciriello and her husband Michael of Walpole, Christopher O'Brien of Norwood and Scott O'Brien of Norwood. Cherished grandfather, "Papa Sean," of Sean, Brayden, Ryanne and Emma. Loving son of the late John F. and Marguerite (Daley) O'Brien. Dear brother of Kathy Sullivan and her husband Paul of Walpole, Beth Pender and her husband Paul of Westwood, Cindy O'Brien of Medford and her late husband Jimmy McLaughlin, Marie Donovan and her husband Bobby of Weymouth, David O'Brien and his wife Heidi of Westwood, Julie Bain and her husband Brian of Walpole, and Helena Stacey and her husband Scott of Westwood. Brother-in-law of Barbara Campbell of Falmouth and Douglas Korell and his wife Jackie of Martha's Vineyard. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, aunts, extended family and friends.

Sean's Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Timothy's Church in Norwood. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 2 - 6 p.m. at the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St. Norwood. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
