W. James "Jim" Maroney

MARONEY, W. JAMES “Jim” of Norwood passed away on January 15, 2026 at the age of 64. Beloved son of the late John J. and Shirley A. (Barss) Maroney. Loving brother of John “Jack” B. Maroney and his wife Diana of Reading and Jeanne Correira of Brewster. Cherished uncle of John and Michael. Jim was a 1979 graduate of Norwood High School and went on to get his Associates Degree in Business at Mass Bay Community College.

Jim was a highly regarded Norwood Police Dispatch Supervisor with a reputation for unwavering calm in a highly stressful and critical position. As noted on the Norwood Police Facebook page: “Dispatch Supervisor Maroney was well liked and admired by all who had the privilege of knowing him".

Jim had a huge circle of friends and family who enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor and great storytelling talent. He was the kind of uncle who showed up at John and Michael's sporting events and all the big moments of their lives. He was the steadfast godfather to Nicole Ciolfi while Kristen and Alyssa Ciolfi cherished him as their honorary uncle.

A gifted athlete, Jim not only raced several times in the Boston Marathon in the Wheelchair Division but also competed in numerous races across the country. Ever the thrill seeker he took up skiing and flew fearlessly down mountains. He parasailed with friends over the warm waters of Florida during their annual Super Bowl trips.

Jim met all challenges with a competitive spark, stubborn strength and giant heart. He always moved forward even when circumstances kept changing. His humor, grit and love will never be forgotten. May our beloved Jim rest in sweet Peace.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 4-7pm at the Kraw Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington Street,  Norwood MA. A Funeral Home Service will held at 6:45pm on Thursday January 29, 2026 at the end of the Visitation. In lieu of flowers please consider donating in Jim's memory to the Circle of Hope Foundation, P.O.Box 421, Norwood, MA 02062. Circle of Hope helps Norwood residents who are dealing with catastrophic medical and hardship issues.
